Instructure, the company that makes/hosts the Canvas LMS, recently announced an intent to sell to a private equity firm for about $2B. That’s a lot of money. I don’t care about the business of edtech. I don’t care if a company buys another company, or what their reasons are. I care about how technologies are used to improve the learning experience for students. The business of edtech is a means to that end....

on expensive canadian cell phone plans

I recently signed up for a cell phone plan. The cheapest deal I could manage was $50/month, plus taxes and fees, and involved a 3 year contract commitment. That's $1800 over the term of the contract. And I got to pay a substantial chunk of the price of the phone, as well. If I let myself be talked into the various bells and whistles offered as add-ons to the monthly plan, I'd be paying nearly $100/month....

WebCT + Blackboard???

Larry Johnson just sent an email to the NMC list with news that Blackboard and WebCT are merging. Holy. Crap. I mean - there goes any sense of competition in the LMS game. What's left to compete? Moodle? Sakai? Something else? I really hope there is more than one Big Player left in the LMS world... Here's hoping the new LMS behemoth doesn't go all Microsoft on our asses, and is able to do something innovative with their new collective girth....
