I’m Begging You: Never Write With A.I.

nytimes.com

Do none of these things not because they are unethical. Writing with A.I. is unethical when it’s a deception: when you pass off words, ideas and information as your own when they aren’t. An acknowledgment can largely address the problem. Do none of these things, either, not because you might be able to learn to write better than an A.I. can. Pretty soon, if not already, you won’t, just as you can’t outrun a car or outplay a chess app.

Design The Meeting

pointc.co

Title: Design The Meeting

Design The Meeting serves as a high-leverage leadership mantra that encourages leaders to treat meetings as intentional culture-building tools rather than defaulting to unstructured routines. By auditing the seven core elements of a meeting, leaders can ensure that every session has a defined purpose and mode of collaboration to maximize organizational efficiency.

The Professional Toolkit

heartsoulmachine.com

Can you just roll up your tools and leave any more? Some thoughts on the nature of labour and higher education.

Selected text

The professional staff member – and I’m talking about myself here – often owns neither. What they own is deep knowledge of a specific machine in a specific place. That has real value, but it’s value that mostly accrues to the institution rather than to the person. And it puts the person in a more precarious position than the income we get paid might suggest.

Meso and macro-level impacts from implementing open badges and microcredentials—A scoping review | Journal of Open, Distance, and Digital Education

ojs.uni-oldenburg.de

Abstract

In this scoping review, we discuss the impacts of open recognition technologies reported in 83 studies, focusing on observed impacts at the meso levels (effects on institutions and groups), and macro levels (effects on society). We found that open badging/microcredentialing practices can improve student engagement, facilitate shifts in faculty and institutional policies and practices, align with employer needs and skills frameworks, and promote stronger communities of practice/learning. Most of the research has been in primary/secondary education, despite the initial promise of open credentialing technology as a democratizing agent of education that could spread the burden of lifelong learning across traditional educational/non-educational entities. Fewer studies considered impacts at the meso-level outside of education, and even fewer discussed findings at the macro level of society. These findings derived from a review of all articles published in ERIC, Scopus, and Proquest on microcredentials/open badges, screening for effects at the meso and macro levels of impact, since the initiation of open badges in 2012.
