2020 Week 23

I officially took the week off. Which was weird, since I basically spent it sitting at my desk staring at my computer. My goal was to get through a first draft of my thesis proposal - I didn’t quite get there, but made some serious progress. I’m writing it as a website, not a word .doc, and that’s working well so far. I’ve integrated Hypothes.is for annotation, and Disqus for comments.

With some momentum going, I’m aiming to have candidacy wrapped up by the end of summer. Which, is, like, coming up really fast…

This week marks 18 continuous years as full-time staff at UCalgary. Wow. (plus another 3 years before that as a contractor before I went downtown for a couple of years).

I realized that the lapel mic I’ve been using for Zoom/Teams calls was putting some buzzing in the background. Not good. So, I picked up an AmazonBasics USB condenser mic (the cheapest viable option). It’s basically a Chinese knock-off of a Yeti Blue mic. It seems to work well enough. Still trying to figure out the best placement so that it gets my voice without having to yell at the mic…

It was a good week. Got out on another bike ride. Things are finally green and/or blooming. Trying to enjoy that before smoke season begins…
